National Honors Society
To qualify for induction into the National Honor Society (NHS) a student must be approved by the Principal or designee as well as:
1) Be a student of Scholarship
- GPA of at least 3.7000 as published by the Guidance Office after the first semester junior/senior year
2) Be a student of Character (for example but not limited to)
- Statements of endorsement from a teacher or community leader (at least one from a teacher)
- No suspensions
- No incidents of harassment, cheating, stealing, disrespect, insubordination, or chemical health violations
- No outside school arrests
- No incidents of unacceptable internet/social media use
- Have an attendance record in good standing including tardiness and dismissals
3) Be a student of Service
- At least 50 hours of Community Service as recorded in ASPEN as of the end of Semester 1; no exceptions beyond the first Monday in February.
4) Be a student of Leadership
- Provide a current resume
- Provide a 100-200 word paragraph stating how you have demonstrated leadership in the school
National Honors Society Timeline
Junior Year is the first year of eligibility to join NHS at Scituate High School. Email advisors Kristen Emerson or Andrew Roberts with questions.

January - Second Semester ends; GPAs are recalculated according to semester long classes
- 3.7000 is the requirement
February - deadline to turn in 50 hours of community service
February break - students are invited to NHS according to their GPA and service hours via Google Classroom
- Only for eligible juniors and seniors
Early March - Initial meeting with prospective NHS inductees
Mid/End of March - NHS applications due (via Google Classroom); this is a hard deadline
April - NHS induction ceremony
June - NHS officer elections
September - GPAs reevaluated according to junior year final grade
February - GPAs reevaluated according to mid-point senior year for any finalized semester courses
